Serenity Knoll Homestead DBA The Chicken Co-op Hatchery Supplier Information Sheet: Expectations for Selling Hatching Eggs and Chicks This information sheet outlines the standards and requirements for individual flock owners and small farms wishing to sell hatching eggs and chicks to Serenity Knoll Homestead DBA The Chicken Co-op Hatchery. Please review our expectations carefully. By signing at the bottom, you acknowledge receipt and understanding of these requirements. Our Expectations for Suppliers ·         State Testing Requirement: All suppliers must provide current negative Pullorum-Typhoid test results for their flock, as required by Massachusetts state regulations. ·         Candling Hatching Eggs: All hatching eggs must be candled before sale to check for cracks, internal defects, or contamination. Only eggs that are clean, intact, and viable should be submitted. ·         Egg Cleanliness: Eggs must be visibly clean, free of dirt, manure, and cracks at the time of collection and delivery. ·         Chick Health Assessment: All chicks must be alert, active, and free from disease, injury, or deformity at the time of sale or delivery. Chicks showing any signs of illness or weakness should not be provided. ·         Biosecurity and Cleaning: Suppliers are expected to regularly clean and disinfect all equipment and poultry housing, following the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) guidelines: ·         Remove visible dirt and manure from all equipment and areas before disinfecting. ·         Clean with soap or detergent and water, then apply an approved disinfectant as directed on the label. ·         Allow surfaces to air dry completely before reuse. ·         Clean and disinfect hatching and brooding spaces between groups. Recordkeeping: Suppliers should keep a simple cleaning/disinfection log and maintain documentation of flock health testing. Additional Recommendations ·         Participation in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) is encouraged but not required. ·         Testing for Avian Influenza is recommended for added assurance of flock health.
